The Path - Choosing Change

There once was a young man who had a great problem. He lived in a land where there was so little light, that he was constantly in fear for his life. He feared falling into holes that he could not see or meeting up with monsters that hid in the dark.

Each day he would walk on the same path toward what he believed was the solution. He had walked this path many times and knew that he could avoid all the dangers he thought were there.

Each time on his walk he would arrive at the same place, a wall of mist on which appeared the words "Fear This".

There were other words projected on it,  but the mist was so thick that he could not make them out no matter how hard he tried.

On the other side of the mist, peering through the thinner layers,  he could make out a bright and beautiful garden and a sign on a post.

He could see printed on the sign the words "This way to Hope".

Try as he may he could not get passed the mist because of the words which he took as a warning "Fear This".

Questions would race through his mind. What is the danger in the mist? Is what I see on the other side just an illusion? What if I die?

One day he made a decision. "Enough is enough!", he shouted, "I can't live in this dark anymore. I am going through the mist to the bright garden.  I am going to find Hope. Nothing can stop me, not even death."

So, he walked along the path and without hesitation passed through the mist.  Its' cool splash instantly refreshed him and he began to feel the fear and hesitation leave him. He could now see a way through the garden toward the light.

As he started to walk along the brightly lit path to Hope, he became curious to see   what the words were that he could not read.

He turned back and smiled as he read, "Why Fear This?"

"Oh", he thought, "Just mist!"
