What is Normal?

Psychology  and the medical professions define disorders. What is the definition of Normal?

Normal not Really Defined By Medical Criteria

If, when a health professional evaluates your symptoms and you meet the criteria on a number of items on their diagnostic checklist, your condition may be termed abnormal.

Normal does not exist in extremes defined by the medical establishments.

You can be sad but depressed is not a normal condition.

You can be nervous but anxiety and panic is not normal a normal condition.

You can be happy but manic is not normal a normal condition.

You can be irritated without being destructively angry a normal condition.

If you can not cope with these events and you focus only on one extreme or the other your condition begins to be out of the normal range.

On the other hand Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) does define normal.

All human beings are normal.  They just have conditions out-of-normal range.

A person is not their behavior. A person is a whole entity which we chose to divide into rational, emotional, physical and spiritual.

A person has all the resources necessary to experience a happy and successful life.

A person can learn and is prepared to consider new ways.

The three main tools of the normal person's thinking are flexibility, directed focus and the ability to observe and analyze situations.

Life has both positives and negatives. The person in normal circumstances can cope with these.  That person can encounter either one and still keep functioning mentally and physically.

Fear for one's life is the only real fear. All other fears are imagined. It is normal to anticipate events. A person in normal circumstances does not let it stop them .

A  person can recognize that their way of thinking about something may be causing problems.

A person can set a goal and set priorities then carry out the necessary steps to their completion.

A person leaves his thinking open to change. Beliefs need to be proven before they are fully accepted.

Moods change how you see things and affects the immediate meaning of what you see, hear and sense.

Attitude affects point of view and needs to be flexible.

A person takes responsibility for their thoughts, feelings and behavior.

A person does not blame others or blame events for their feelings and thoughts.

A person is confident in themselves and knows they can handle both  positive or negative situations.

A person is confident that they can be happy again once they are sad.

A person accepts life as it is and accepts themselves as they are.

A person can grasp happiness and success on the run. Success is getting one step closer to what you want. Happiness is joy in living and being in this moment.

A person is fully aware of life in this moment and finds something to appreciate.

A person knows that how he talks to himself and others can influence how he feels about himself and how he behaves toward others. Language is important.

A person does not need to prove themselves right. They accept that what is right for them may not be right for the other person. They accept that there is no right or wrong only experience.

A person is grateful for just being.

A person is forgiving.

We are all normal though we may have conditions that we need help with.
